Tasting articles

I’ve been a subscriber to the website for quite a while now and particularly enjoy the tasting articles as a way of broadening my wine drinking experience and helping to build up my cellar. It must take a tremendous effort to have consistently provided these comprehensive tasting articles over such a sustained period. I’m not sure if this is factually correct but I have perceived there to be a decreasing number of tasting articles of late and wondered if anyone else had noticed this or some feedback could be provided as to whether this is a change of overall approach, a short term pattern due to WWC24, seasonal or some other reason. It could be completely in my imagination but I have generally become used to there being a tasting article on every weekday other than throwback Thursday but for the last few weeks there has been only 2-3 tasting articles a week. Fully appreciate that there is still the same quality of content and recent months have seen new features such as ‘wine news in 5’. ‘Jancis’ diary’ and others which I still enjoy reading so this is not intended as a criticism more of gently enquiry and interest

I’ll ask managing editor Tara whether she’d like to comment on this too but it definitely isn’t our policy to cut down on tasting articles and in fact in editorial meetings we have sometimes felt we almost had too many!

But you’re right that our general policy is to provide one every weekday and that has not changed. Currently of course the external tasting calendar/London wine scene is dead. But just you wait for September…

Nathan, you are correct that we have been publishing a few fewer Tasting Articles than usual as there are so many fewer industry tastings in July and August, but also because we were so lucky to receive so many amazing entries for our wine writing competition. We wanted to share the best of them with our readers, and so we’ve actually increased our publishing schedule to allow for 2 articles 7 days a week, which is more articles than ever before.

Come September, when we’ve finished printing the competition entries, we will go back to our regular schedule of 11-12 articles a week, with a higher proportion of tasting articles that we’ve had this month.

Please do let us know if there is anything in particular you’d like to see us cover. We are always keen to know what our readers want to know about. Thank you!

Thank you both for responding, its much appreciated. I am fortunate enough to have a sizeable cellar where I can store wine so with a few exceptions I have tended to buy younger vintages, often on release, to lay down so I am always interested in reviews of newly released vintages. For instance I have a particular fondness for South African wines and note that over the next couple of months TWS are offering first releases from Minimalist, Van Loggerenberg, Vergelegen and Boekenhoutskloof. Whilst it is always useful to have reviews of the annual Bordeaux, Burgundy (still a complete mystery to me!!!), Brunello and Barolo releases I do enjoy articles that are a little more left field or focussed on a grape that it is not as obvious for cellaring or interesting wine / food pairings. I really enjoyed Tamlyn’s albarino article this week as it is often my go to white wine but had never considered some of the pairings or types / age.

It would be great to have verticals of things like Tignanello, Domaine de Trevallon and Yarra Yering (esp Dry red no1) as there isn’t that much on those wines in the tasting notes compared to, say, Bordeaux
