Vertical tastings of Bordeaux châteaux

I shared a bottle of the 1990 Montrose six weeks ago from one of my all-time favourite vintages and it was outstanding. Everything in balance with the tannins well integrated and a long finish. A glorious bottle of wine.

Thanks for the Suduirat vertical.

Interesting that the 2014 was James’ pick of what to drink now. Still trying to wrap my head around what exactly that means for the other higher scoring years that are within their drinking window.

Picked up a couple of half bottles of 2020 Lions de Suduirat today. I previously had some 2018, it will be interesting to see whether the higher score for 2020 grand vin, over 2018, will trickle down to this cuvee. Though at the $10.99 price I am sure it will be GV.

2014 is an interesting Bordeaux vintage. I look forward to various 10 years on tastings early next year.

Rather more than you were this time last year possibly? And what delights to follow in the next two years after that. At the time, I think 2014 was considered the best since 2010, and a few relatively less good years had forced down prices quite a bit to levels that look enviable now. In that respect, a bit like 2004, both representing a pricing world that would never return. My 2004s were generally very enjoyable in the end, haven’t really got into the 14s yet. So 10 year on tastings will be welcome.

Based on the amount of comments surrounding the fact that Grand Puy Lacoste was not included in the 2014 tastings, I think that a Grand Puy Lacoste vertical would be popular with Purple Pagers.

Looking over the the verticals for the past few years I note that we have had several from properties that seem to have been doing particularly well since 2015. Figeac, Montrose, Meyney, Leoville Poyferre come to mind. Can I suggest Leoville Barton (plus Langoa), Lynch Bages and Canon as properties that seem (based on reviews) to have been doing great recently and that are probably popular here?

Many thanks for this useful suggestions. I will pass them on to James.

Can I second the Léoville Barton request? I’m particularly interested in the 1995 - 2002s range and 2014. Thank you.

Thanks for Grand Puy Lacoste and Brane Cantenac in the same month! Thoroughly approve.

GPL review particularly useful, as it hasn’t been covered in the last two Bordeaux 10 year horizontals.
