Dom Alary, L'Estévenas 2018 Cairanne

I’m eager to try Domaine Alary wines after Richard’s article. I have a question for him:

The Syrah comes from a plot planted in 1959, reputedly the first block of this variety in the southern Rhône outside Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Famille Perrin’s Vinsobre Les Hauts de Julien Vieilles Vignes is made with Syrah (and Grenache) from a 90 years old plot, but I think the plot is co-planted with Grenache, not a separated block. Do you know if that’s the case?

Best

Rodrigo

I’d like to praise UK importers of Perrin wines, LIberty, here. Their online information on the many wines they sell is second to none.

Although I emailed Marc and Jean-Pierre Perrin for a response, Nicola Lawrence of Liberty was quick off the mark with:

According to our tech sheet, Rodrigo is correct … “Unusually, this single vineyard is co-planted with 90-year-old Grenache and Syrah vines which generally ripen together, permitting a single harvest.”

@RichardHemming Could I ask where you found the wine in SG? I can’t seem to find any merchants which stock the wine here… haha

Hi, it was actually brought in from London for 67 Pall Mall, and we only had a few bottles, which are sadly now all empty! I will try and persuade an importer here to get some in …
