I wish you had a chance to try Paloma Merlot. I recall that was a consistently well-made Spring Mountain Merlot.
Les invito a probar Merlot de Uruguay ( mi pais ), en particular la region de Canelones o la mas oceanica que son de Maldonado. Algunos de los referentes sin duda son Merlot Bouza Parcela unica B9 de region Las Violetas Canelones , Pisano RPF Merlot de region Progreso-Canelones Merlot Bodega Bouza de Viñedos zona de Cerro Pan de Azucar (Maldonado) o el Merlot de Bodega Alto de la Ballena , tambien de Maldonado pero mas cercano la region de Punta del Este . Obviamente tambien es utilizado en muchos Blend con Tannat , que invito a descubrirlos.
Wonderful article, Alder! I’ve always been a fan of the more aromatic nature of Merlot, and I think it is one of the overlooked charms of the wines. I know you can’t taste every single Merlot in Napa, but Frog’s Leap has long been a favorite of mine and is worth checking out. I was so glad to see Trois Noix represented in your tasting!
