Fascinating read - thanks. I have found the increasingly specific provenance of french oak for wine equally as interesting (specific forests, or even trees!), but I wonder if the same experiments are going on in wine with Q. garryana and Q. muehlenbergii - must be right? I also hadn’t realised ‘european’ and ‘french’ oak were different!
